House Paint Cost

While everyone would need house painting, there have been a few recent issues regarding it. One of the largest issues would probably be the use of lead paint and its effects on people. While paint has commonly thought to be harmless for a lot of people, the lead contained in it is the total opposite and sadly, it has been proven many times to be harmless.
Lead has become an issue not because it is an ingredient of paint. Lead has also been used in other materials such as toys and school supplies and with the same issues; lead has been known to poison a lot of people.
Although it can be a threat, you can avoid it easily. Lead can be everywhere but avoiding it is quite easy to manage.
What Is Lead Poisoning?
In the interior of buildings that are much older as well as in other details such as the doors, ceilings, cabinets and doors, lead has been used until it was banned in 1978 since it has been proven to cause several sicknesses in children and also in adults. Dealing with this problem can be very costly that some owners who do not care much would not deal with the problem at all, thus causing a threat to all the people who would be exposed to the surfaces that are painted with lead paint.
According to a study, exposure of people to lead paint can cause several mental and physical disorders than can prove destructive as it develops. For pregnant women, exposure to lead can cause abnormal development of the fetus. Lead poisoning can cause a lot ranging from kidney problems in children or in adults to an increase in blood pressure.
What Can You Do?
In most cases, people would try to remove the cause by scraping off the harmful layer of paint and applying a new layer. While this would be the easiest way, you should never try to do this. Scraping off the layer off could cause particles to go flying onto the air and those particles can poison anyone who would inhale it. Instead, try to cover the harmful layer with something like a wallboard or wallpaper and paint that layer.
For doors, cabinets and other small parts, it would be best to have them replaced entirely. You would not want to risk anything regarding health and for this, the safest way is to have the entire thing removed. While that may sound very costly, it pays to be sure of everyone's welfare.
If You Don't Want To Do It Yourself
With the threats imposed by these issues, you might not want to risk your own welfare and thus, have someone else to do the job for you. Fortunately, some people specialize in this. You can hire contractors that are certified to deal with issues regarding lead poisoning. These people already know what to do and can give you advice on how to maintain it and with that, you can already fix the issues without doing things yourself.
With the experience and capabilities of these people, hiring them could be the best option for you. While it may cost you something, you and other people who could be harmed are much safer if you have them do the job for you and with that, your health and everyone else's health are worth much more than the extra cash you would have to pay if you have an expert to do it for you.
Lead paint in house painting may have cause a lot of issues but with ways to control them, there should not be too much.

QUESTION:
How much would it cost to paint the interior for my house?
My house is 1700 square feet, 2 story and has vaulted ceilings on the second story.I bought all the paint and supplies. I also plan to move all the furniture myself.
I need the interior painted except the cupboards, my master bedroom and all the bathroooms. (I am doing those my self).
So I need about 1300 square feet painted.
How much can I expect to pay a crew to come out to my house and paint it on a weekend?
I was thinking it would cost around 00???
-
ANSWER:
You can paint your house for alot less than paying someone to do it. I recommend going to Ace Hardware to get your paint. They have high quality paint at a really good price. You could do 3 maybe 4 gallons per room at bucks per gallon of paint. Supplies are cheap. Definitely don't pay someone. You wont need to prime unless the current color is darker than the one you are putting on. Priming at that point helps your new paint cover better.

epending on the size and condition, whether they need to be taken right back to the wood, whether they ll need reputtying, it will depend on the state of them. it will be hard to give an estimate and of course how many and size, oh and what area you live, some areas are more expensive than others, but look for a painter who belongs to the master craftsmans guild if you want a quality job that will last for years.i know what sash windows are, to be honest if your doing it yourself, invest in one of those dremels, they ll make your job of sanding a lot easier, also apply nitromors as its an acid and will remove all the old coats, but follow the instructions, then youll need to prime , basecoat, undercoat and topcoat twice. use a good quality exterior gloss as your finish.

QUESTION:
Libs: If you owned a house painting business would it be wrong to be able to deduct the cost of paint?
On your income tax return?People are saying that oil companies shouldn't be able to write off the cost of labor & drilling fluid for dry wells.
They also claim that oil companies shouldn't be able to deduct the cost of paying royalties to foreign governments.
Whats wrong with deducting the cost of running a business like every other company in the US does?
-
ANSWER:
No, that is not what they are saying. What they are saying is that when oil company profits are shielded from taxes, that the cost that went into those shielded profits should not be deductible from their taxable income. And they do this all the time. It's having the cake and eating it too. So either they pay taxes on that profit (off shore profits that they do not pay tax on) and get to deduct the cost of those operations or they keep that profit untaxed and do not get to deduct the cost of those operations from their on-shore tax bill.So on your house painter analogy - A painter in Detroit buys paint in the US and then uses it to paint houses in Windsor. He is paid in Canada and his profit is untaxed in the US, but he claims the cost of the paint he used in Canada against his US business expenses.

QUESTION:
How much would it cost to paint our house...?
new 1400 sf house. It is brand new and has just nuetral colors though the entire house..Would like to add some fun colors.
I don't want to use cheap paint. Thanks for the help!!!
The house is brand new and the ceilings do not need painted. The walls are plain, so we want to add some color..
We are planning to do it our selves.-
ANSWER:
Benjamin Moore,Murello are excellent paints. If you are doing it yourself it will cost about 50-100 dollars a room depending on the room size. New homes will absorb more paint and always need 2 coats. If a painter does this for you it can be anywhere from 2-4K. Also do the ceilings need paint? Its hard to give an estimate without seeing the home.
Are there vaulted ceilings all this adds to the price if a painter does the work.

QUESTION:
How much would it cost to paint the house?
It's about 1,800 square feet, the kitchen and family room are currently yellow and green, but the rest of the house is white.
What is hard about doing the job yourself, and what are the costs of hiring painters?
What would be different about the results if I get it done by myself?
Does it just take time, or is it also skill?-
ANSWER:
Unless you are making a lot of money and don't want to put in the time and effort, you'd probably be a lot better off doing it yourself. It isn't too hard to do a good job, and you might do just as good a job or even better than the uneducated "professionals" who will probably be careless and in a big hurry because you're paying for the job and not by the hour. They may also be foreigners and if you have any concerns they might not understand what you're saying. They may be more efficient at covering up the floors, furniture, etc. because they do it all the time, but you'll be more careful because it's your house and you won't want to get paint on the carpet, etc. By using paint rollers instead of brushes the job is a lot easier. To get to the edges by the ceiling I tape a paintbrush to the end of a broomstick, but they probably have tools you can buy for that. If you have a standard 8 ft. ceiling and you're tall, you probably won't need anything like that to reach the ceiling. The apartment I have to paint has 9 ft. ceilings and I'm short.Another advantage to doing it yourself is if you have a lot of stuff or are sloppy. If you hire someone they'll want you to move everything towards the center of the room or away from your walls throughout the house, because they'll want to do the whole job in one day and not waste time moving stuff around. If you do it yourself you can do one room at a time, so you can move some stuff from the room you're painting to another room, then move it back when you finish with the room.
Also, you may not want to paint the whole house at once, especially if you have children. People shouldn't sleep in a painted room until the paint dries and everything airs out, most likely it is dangerous (I'm not a scientist but I'm sure these chemicals are dangerous and can cause cancer in 20 or 30 years). This way if you paint a bedroom, whoever is sleeping there can sleep in another room that night that wasn't painted.

QUESTION:
About how much should it cost to paint a 2500 foot house?
What I mean is how much would it cost to hire someone paint it and to purchase the paints? The master bedroom has 15 foot walls and the entry way to the house is two stories. Five colors will be used. Is 2500 dollars for this job too high? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Mythumbhurts;By what you've described in square footage, it being two-story, the 15 foot walls, and a five color job I'm going to tell you I'd quote you ,750.
Why more?
For one that's fair for all involved considering I have to move furniture and drop the house, thus effectively working in zones, i.e., room by room commencement and completion before moving on to the next if you understand what I mean. . . I know the house is likely occupied by the 00 you state so that's a safe assumption to make I think.
Also, you're going to want this work to look like your home could be a feature in Better Homes & Gardens as I can also pretty safely assume that by the amount of colors your proposing, the question, and the intellect in how you've composed this, thus I can picture a wall & ceiling finish schedule. Your also not going to want a contractors grade of paint and already have in mind colors in a premium coating which I have considered and would naturally provide within the price I'm quoting you.
I always convey that, "I'd rather explain to you the price rather than the quality" That being said, can you understand why I have based my estimate higher than that which is stated in your question?
In closing I'm going to state that whoever you consider for this project make sure of their reputation before turning over your home to them. And if monies are proposed up front, make sure it is only funds relative to actual expenses; and don't let any painter supplement product brands or lines. . . you're the customer expect and demand what your paying for.

QUESTION:
What percentage of labor (exterior house painting) cost should I collect up front?
I am painting the exterior of a 1800 square foot home. I would like to know what the industry norm is for collecting the draws on the labor, as the job progresses. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Most contractors I have dealt with (which isn't many admittedly, and none of them were painters) have requested 25-30% of the total estimate before beginning work. Obviously, you should have a contract signed by both of you outlining the work to be done, the payment schedule, and the time line of work (allowing for inclement weather, etc).
Personally, as a home owner, I would not pay a painter more than 25% before the project started and not more than 50% before it was completely finished.

QUESTION:
How much it would cost to paint my house?
I live in San Diego, and I'm wondering what are the normal prices for 2k sqft home?-
ANSWER:
Samuel, you really need a local painting contractor to give you the local rate for this project. Fortunately, there are plenty of local painting contractors seeking to give free estimates with no obligation, and taking advantage of this is the consumer-smart way to go about finding an accurate answer to your question. It's important that you get a local estimate and not rely on guesses found here on Yah, as a lot of factors really bear on the cost of such a project, including the following: The cost of material and labor greatly varies by location.A local painting contractor can easily assist you in painting your house. If you negotiate well with the contractor and he buys the materials (i.e., the paint, etc.) for you, you may try to have him pass the discounted cost of the materials to you in exchange for givning him the painting job, as usually contractors get discounts (called "contractor's discounts") when buying from suppliers because of the many purchases they make as required by their jobs..
As I said, free estimates from local painting contractors are the key to your success in this home improvement project of yours. QUESTION:
Help! How much does house paint damage cost?
My friend crashed a car recently and needs to pay 0 to fix it. He does not have the money to do so, so suddenly he is trying to get me to pay for it (out of total of 3 liable people). I am considering making an offer of a third of the paint cost or 0(which I will decide) to pay for the "damage." Question is, how much does it cost to remove a few scuffs off the wall. They are about 3-6 inches long, just dark marks. Possibly shoe polish. It wont wash off but I know it could be painted over. My question is, how much do you suppose it would cost to fix something like that.Near the bottom of a wall, there are a few scuffs, 3-6 inches long, that wont wash off. The paint originally used seems very cheap and faded. These scuffs repeat on 2 other walls, but are very minor. I need an estimate, if anyone could offer. Thank you!
-
ANSWER:
Figure about per spot if there is a lot of small spots. Any painter should use this formula and the spots should be relatively easy to fix using KILZ sealer and touchup paint, unless it is impossible to match the paint. In that case it could be very costly should you need to paint whole walls or rooms.

QUESTION:
how much does it cost to paint a house in arizona?
how much per square foot?-
ANSWER:
Quotes can very substantially from one painter to another. Your best bet is to get a few quotes which are usually offered for free. There are a lot of factors to consider, such as quality of paint, using a painter vs. doing it yourself, hard to reach areas, whether the walls need a primer coat or cleaning prior to painting, having to move furniture, etc.Just as a tip, never pay a painter up front for a job that has not been started or completed.

QUESTION:
How much should it cost to paint the entire interior of a 2300 square foot house?
We're in the San Francisco Bay area, and would like to paint all walls (no trim, no ceilings) in our new house before we move in. Everything is brand new and the house will be empty. We'd like to pick several colors, but no faux finishes. We're looking for an idea of what a reasonable total cost would be.
Further clarification: I'd really rather not do this myself - I'd like to know how much it would cost to hire a professional.-
ANSWER:
If you hire someone it will cost many thousands of dollars. Doing it yourself, the cost depends on the quality of paint, and whether you do one or 2 coats. Good paint, 2 coats will take at least 20 gallons, maybe more. Figure at least 0 for paint, maybe twice that. If you roll it, you'll get an excellent paint job. If you spray it, well, I have yet to see washable walls that were sprayed.Use good quality paint. Buy the most expensive the store carries! I like Behr paint (home depot has it), and have been slowly painting the entire inside of my house. I like the way the Behr paint goes on, it has a very nice consistency doesn't run much, and the colors to chose from are great. Gliddon is ok, but very stinky. I've been painting my walls with eggshell or satin finish, which is very nice, without being shiney, and it's washable.
One gallon of paint covers between 250 and 400 sq. feet of area. If you are painting the same color, one coat is good enough. If you are changing colors, you have to put down 2 coats. Ignore the cans that say "covers in one coat." That is never true if you change colors.
So, one can covers apprx. 300 sq. feet, or about 2 walls in a small bedroom.
Figure a bedroom that is 12 x 14 (with 8 ft. high ceilings) will use this much paint: (12 x
+(12 x
+ (14 x
+ (14 x
=476 sq ft.of walls. If you put one coat on the walls, that's probably 2 gallons. (the first coat always uses up more paint than the second coat). Figure another 1 gallon for the second coat.At per gallon x 3 gallons =
________________________________________
A room that is 25' x 15' has 640 sq ft of walls, or probably 4 gallons of paint for 2 coats (maybe 5 gallons). To paint your entire interior, you have to figure out how many walls and the square footage of walls (not floors).
If you are painting everything the same color, you could buy 5 gallon containers of paint and save a little. (be very certain of the color before buying 5 gallons at a time though!)
Don't forget to prepare the walls, and if painting bare wood, to prepare it too, or the paint won't stick well.
PS. When we bought a new house a number of years back, we moved in and they had "painted" the walls white (sprayed on). within a couple years those walls needed painted, badly and the amount of paint those walls sucked up was astounding. The original spraying had barely covered the drywall, and it took a huge amount of paint to cover the walls properly. I think the walls were primed, but not thoroughly. So, if you are working from bare drywall, you have to prime the stuff too.
If you have the money, hire someone to paint for you! It's a huge amount of work to paint.

how much will it cost to paint the interior of our approximately 2,000 sq. ft. house?

The approximate square footage of the house is 2,000.Also, if we choose to go with a painter or painting company, how much will they charge for paint and labor? Fyi, we live in Northern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.

ANSWER:
Are you painting ceilings, walls and trim? Or Walls only? I'm a painter in Ky and these are my estimates. .00 /sf for ceilings. /opening for trim. Opening as a door and its frame, window, a room of baseboard etc. Walls $ 3.00 /lin.f for2 coats and patching holes and nail pops. those prices include all paint. Get your painter to buy materials for they'll be more likely to get a discount. Most gallons of paint spread 300-400 sq.f Ask around for reliable painters and make sure you get a detailed contract about price, how many coats and start and completion dates

How much would it cost to paint the exterior of our house?
We just bought a house and we would like to either re-side or paint the exterior of our new home. I was just wondering before we go and make calls to have estimates, trying to decided which would be better. It's a 900 sq ft home top and bottom one story. Pretty simple looking home. Thanks

Stick to getting estimates, Chevis, as there are too many variables, and, yes, the location of your house has a significant impact on the price you should expect to pay. QUESTION:
what cost to paint house?
does anyone know the round about cost to paint a house
80 sq foot one story metal sides
plus garage 1 1/2 car size
thank you for your help-
ANSWER:
We are in the process of painting a small two bedroom, one bath farm house in which I grew up. I have forgotten the exact amount, but we figured less than 00 including the labor of a college kid to scrape and paint for about 20 hours.Where you are, how much you intend to do yourself and what you are going to hire done, whether or not you need to prime, how much "detail" work there is...all will cause the price to vary.
As another said, you must have the size of the home wrong. An 8 foot by 10 foot storage building would be 80 square feet. A home about 20 by 40 would be 800 square feet. If you figure primer and paint each covering around 400 square feet, then two gallons of paint and two of primer at between and per gallon should cover an 800 square foot home comfortably. If you need additional colors for trim, add that in as well. If you don't need to prime, you can deduct that expense.
Labor will vary greatly depending on your market. We are paying about per hour. If you own the home, you can figure your own labor is "free," of course.

QUESTION:
Where is the cheapest place to buy exterior house paint?
Who sells a low cost decent house paint?-
ANSWER:
well this is important and with some things its not true but with paint it very much is you get what you pay for. i am a painter and i've used em all a good deal for cheap is the paint they sell at awc stores if you have those there i think porter is cheap too. benjamin more makes a cost effective product called super spec its descent also if you are going to be painting alot and have decent credit get an account with a paint store cause it will over time drastically decrease the price of not only the paint they sell but the tools as well. another tip sherwin williams, awc, porter, lowes, home depot are all corporate stores so there prices are generally set unless you doing alot of business with them, but benjamin moore stores are generally frnchised out and individually owed so you may be able to haggle with them. Here is a link too there site to find their retailers nears you

QUESTION:
How Much Will It Cost to Paint the Inside of My House?
I'm looking to hire a painter for the inside of my house. Downstairs only which is about 850 square ft. It is a kitchen (with a small hallway), dining room, living room, and small bathroom. Ceilings won't need painting just the walls. Kitchen and dining room has chair rails and is split in color. How much do you think?
-
ANSWER:
Get several painters estimates. Call some up from the good old yellow pages and ask if they give free estimates then go with the cheaper one. And if you still aren't satisfied with the cost either do like me and that is do it yourself or ask some willing and able family member who needs a little cash and a good meal to do it. You will just be paying for a gallon or two of paint from where ever you were to by it and a few extra bucks for someone who may need it and a good meal.

QUESTION:
Approximately how much would it cost to completely remodel the inside of a two-family A-frame house?
I am curious as to about how much it would cost to paint (house currently has lead paint) the inside of an 8-room house (two floors), completely remodel the bathroom and kitchen, sand the hardwood floors, wallpaper all rooms, and put down new linoleum on the kitchen floor and update all the electrical outlets (service has been updated from the street and in the cellar). The house has new windows and a new heating system. Hopefully, answers will be from construction people who have experience. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
First off, the lead paint removal MUST be done by someone who has been trained (and in most states licensed) to do so. Lead paint is classified hazardous material and requires special disposal procedures, as well as a post-removal inspection. DO NOT attempt to do it yourself. Every case is different, and depend on the amount of lead paint to be removed, but a safe estimate would be in the range of 00 per room just for the lead work. Contact your local health department to get the names of licensed lead removal specialists. If you have lead paint, there is also the possibility that you could have asbestos in the house. The most common sources are floor tiles and pipe insulation. Again, this is something that requires a specialist, and is not a do it yourself job. Chances are, the lead specialist will be able to handle asbestos as well.
As far as the rest of the work you mentioned, they are all dependant on where you are, local price of material, and availability of competition in the area. For instance, the electrical work could range anywhere from to (or more) per man per hour, plus materials and permits. If you have a local hardware store or small home center (NOT Home Depot or Lowes -- I mean a privately owned place), ask the owner to recommend some general contractors. Expect to pay for an estimate, but most will apply the estimate fee toward the total bill if you give them the job.

QUESTION:
how much does it cost to paint the interior of a 4000 sq ft house?
My fiance and I are remodeling a house and are getting quotes. We are in the southeast (USA) and the house is about 4000 sq ft. Any ideas as to about how much this should cost?-
ANSWER:
Here is ballpark numbers to help with the cost estimate. (Assuming ideal conditions with minimum to no prep work)
1. .35 - .75 per square foot - for sheetrock or brick walls
2. .00 - .50 per square foot - for trim if installed. You also need to add in prep work, materials, mobilization, and labor costs. Don't forget most of the time a cheap estimate will yield a cheap or bad finished product. Make sure you get a reputable painter, with references and ask to see previous work. Lastly, (I have learned this the hard way), have the scope of work and cost in writing with a clear understanding between you and the painter. It never fails that at the end of a project the contractor will want a change order for something that was in the original scope of work.
Best of Luck.

QUESTION:
How much does it cost for professional house painting?
On average, what does it cost per room to have a professional painter paint the rooms in your home? What if you supply the paint? I will need 6 rooms painted, including two rooms that need priming, and all the trim.-
ANSWER:
Actually it all depends on the square feet of your house, but I can give you some idea how much it can cost you (approx).
This site gives you an estimate according to your zip code:
http://www.servicemagic.com/resources.estimator.Painting.4.html
There is also a web site which can give you an estimate:
http://www.renovationexperts.com/paintcalc.aspIf you are going to supply the paint, it can cost you around 0-00 including Priming of two rooms. It's always best to shop around, I mean call few people and get an estimate.
You may also know, people who paints, most of the time, they get about 30% discount on their purchase, you can also save some extra dollars on the pain.
You can also offer cash for the job and you may save 0-0 extra.
Hope, the above would give you some idea!

QUESTION:
average cost to paint a three bedroom house?
inside only.-
ANSWER:
00-00 if there are no special conditions that require attention such as plaster/drywall repairs, water stains an inordinate amount of furniture to manipulate, high ceilings or finally an inordinate amount of trim and windows or doors. This assumes that no more than two(2) colors are used for the walls and ceiling. Example all ceilings will need to be flat white and walls and trim have to be the same color if three colors are used in anyone room then the price goes up as they have to change roller covers more and clean brushes more often.
If the home is void of occupants and contents and the interior can be sprayed then the cost is less. Hope this helps.

QUESTION:
how much does it cost to paint the interior of a 2100 square foot house?
I would like to know how to estimate an interior paint job?-
ANSWER:
interior paint itself costs anywhere from - or more a gallon, depending on the quality. Painting a 12x12-foot room, both walls and ceiling, can require -0 worth of paint, plus - for primer, brushes, rollers, drop clothes and other supplies. For a 1,500-square-foot home, supplies run 0-0 for average paint, and 0-0 for higher quality.
Expect to pay 0-0 to have a 12x12-foot room painted by a licensed contractor with brand-name paints; a 15x20-foot room or larger runs 0-0 or more; and a 1,200-1,500 square foot home is ,100-,000 or more. Having the ceiling painted bumps the cost to the high end of the scale.

QUESTION:
What is the average cost to paint the exterior trim on a 2400 sqf house.?
Needs paint - front door, side doors (2), back sliding doors (2 sets), shutters (6), 2 sunburst, 2 story corner trim (8)?What would you charge for all of it - labor + paint?
-
ANSWER:
Adrian
That is like asking how long is a piece of string? Cost will be directly related to amount of trim involved and where that trim is located in relation to what is on the ground i.e. accessibility, total linear feet and width, height above ground, amount of surface preparation required, intricacy of the trim i.e. flat vs swirls and twists, roof soffit and eves and drip blocking involved, slopes, accessibility, type of paint, amount of masking required to name a few considerations. I'd get some professional painters to bid it -- then you will know what to expect. $$$$$$$
